Breaking down: “Overthinking”
‘overthinking’ is what I consider to be my genesis piece.
Having spent 2021 as an artist navigating the NFT space, I found myself constantly trying to answer the question of who I want to be as I release art to the blockchain.
I watched as so many other artists created PFP projects, built utility around their art, and worked to maintain Discord servers for their supporters.
While this was exciting, I couldn't bring myself to do the same. The type of art that I was releasing was only ever meant to be a form of self-expression, and the idea of conforming to build value around it felt hollow.
I spent months overthinking.
Am I missing out by not going all-in on web3 and the emerging world of NFTs? What if I regret not positioning myself and my art better? Why can’t I sacrifice another hobby when it’ll likely bring so much into my life? Am I naive for wanting people to support artists without expecting capital gainz/social capital in return?
One night I found myself making this piece, and it wasn’t until after it was finished that I realized it had come to reflect how I had been feeling.
The creation of ‘overthinking’ gave me the clarity I had been searching for.
Because of this piece, I feel confident in moving forward in my decision to never begin a project by thinking, “to mint or not to mint?” I will always start with the art itself; if I believe a piece belongs on-chain, I’ll decide that once it’s complete.
By owning my artwork, you own pieces of my journey as an artist, and you become part of my story. While I can’t promise you 10x returns or yacht parties, I can promise that you’re investing in an artist that genuinely cares about art and the long-term impact of NFTs.
This piece marks the beginning of my story.
